Changing the world one theater kid at a time.

Our Five Core Values & Why They Matter

Treasure Valley Children’s Theater is founded on five core values that infuse every decision we make, every class we teach, and the way in which we approach our community. Our values are: Respect, Commitment, Courage, Enthusiasm, and Excellence.

Our Values in Business

TVCT has a culture of high expectation. When our values are at the core of our work, we believe it leads to an effective, collaborative, fun, mission-driven workplace!

RESPECT is reflected in a TVCT team member’s communication.

COMMITMENT is paramount to being a successful TVCT team member.

COURAGE is presented when a team member embraces leadership opportunities.

We embrace challenges with ENTHUSIASM as opportunities to do our work even better.

EXCELLENCE is demonstrated through intentional choices to better ourselves and our work.

Our Values in Education

Not only do we use these values to guide us as professionals and educators, but we encourage our students to do the same. By incorporating these values into our classes, we empower youth to realize their full potential and use the confidence gained and skills learned to change the world

TVCT performing arts experiences offer youth a safe space within which to:

  • Find courage to overcome fears, try new things, and face challenges.
  • Master commitment to the process of developing something unique, setting goals, and earning rewards.
  • Practice respect for themselves, their peers, their community, and the transformative power of the arts.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the transformative power of the arts and their unique talents to change the world.
  • Strive for excellence by being the best version of themselves in everything they do.

Our Values in Performance Programs

In our performance programs, we communicate rehearsal expectations as they apply to our values:

Commitment:

  • Be on time and ready to work!
  • Bring script & music binder, pencil, water, highlighter, healthy snack, personal props, rehearsal clothes, and close-toed shoes in a backpack with your name every day.
  • Be prepared. Make sure that you know which scenes/songs will be rehearsed and that you have worked on these prior to rehearsal.
  • Memorize your lines and lyrics on time: Be off-book on or before Monday June 19th.

Courage:

  • Be a risk-taker – have courage and try new things! Making choices is part of being an artist.
  • Be a group leader who strives to include and encourage everyone. Know when to let others lead.
  • Think before doing anything that could physically, vocally, or mentally impede your performance before, during, and after rehearsals.

“My favorite value is courage. Theater (and LIFE!) is all about taking a leap and understanding that it isn’t always easy! It’s ok to be nervous and make mistakes. Just do it!”

Allison, Education Director

Respect:

  • Take your ideas to the directors – avoid directing other actors.
  • No cell phones or smart watches – leave them at home or in your backpack.
  • Work amiably with everyone – cast, crew, & directors.
  • Be an attentive audience member when others are performing.
  • Get plenty of sleep & eat healthy foods.
  • Respect the playwright and their work. Strive to memorize lines and lyrics exactly.
  • Respect the spaces where we rehearse and perform and leave it better than you found it.

“My favorite value is absolutely, hands down, respect. Always Respect. If there is no respect in the room, then why are you even doing this?”

Noah, Educator

Enthusiasm:

  • Bring ideas, creativity, & personality.
  • Be courteous, responsible, & pleasant.
  • Go full out every day!
  • Have fun!

“My favorite value is enthusiasm. I think having enthusiasm for what you are doing and learning can make all of the difference. Even if you lack in skills or talent, being excited and enthusiastic can make up for that!”

Mary, Educator

Excellence:

  • Be focused on and off stage!
  • Work outside of rehearsal: researching, analyzing, and developing your character. Also memorize lines & lyrics, polish songs, blocking, & choreography.
  • Take the initiative to find your base layer costume and any specific costume pieces; don’t assume that your grown-up will do this for you.
  • Be proud of your creative & artistic journey!

“My favorite value is excellence. I love that each day, each moment is an opportunity to impress myself, to become an even better version of me and the me I want to be.”

Autumn, Executive Director

Conclusion…

We know that the work we are doing is intentional, important, and impactful. By infusing our core values into every decision we make, we can continue to change the world, one theater kid at a time!

“Now more than ever, the TVCT values are my guiding principles as an adult, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the lessons that I’ve learned at TVCT and continue to learn.”
